Interactive Workshop on Shared Spaces. This Monday!

Interactive Workshop on Shared Spaces. This Monday!

Pre-register to save your space now!

Monday November 1: 7 - 8:30 pm

Multi-tenant/shared spaces are an increasingly common means for small social enterprises and not-for-profits to situate in healthy, vibrant work environments among a mix of professionals, entrepreneurs and artists while decreasing their financial expenses. This workshop will discuss findings from a feasibility study on developing such a space(s) in the Region of Waterloo. Multiple aspects of shared spaces will be covered, including tenant mix and tenancy types; locational considerations; types of programs and services; design of space and facilities; mandates; governance and management; financial considerations; development processes and sustainability. It will be an interactive workshop, enabling participants to focus discussion on areas of greatest interest to them.

Thinking of starting or getting involved with a shared space? Bring your questions! Emphasis will be placed on discussing benefits and challenges and on the variations that are characteristic of such spaces.

Don’t miss this opportunity to learn about the ins and outs of the increasingly popular co-working and resource sharing model!

Guest Artist: Barbara Bryce | Improvised Art Glass

Guest Artist: Barbara Bryce | Improvised Art Glass

The serendipitous process of finding materials is improvised. Similarly, the found pieces are assembled on an outline often without a pattern; hence the work seems to design itself. Besides a fascination with glass, Barbara designs and paints for theatre and builds crazy instruments also from found materials for the Sonic Playground (www.sonicplayground.ca).

A portion of the sale of Barb’s work will be donated to the Guelph Arts Platform; an organization of artists dedicated to founding an interdisciplinary, collaborative home for artistic and professional activities in Guelph. Members of the Guelph Arts Platform will also have their work on display.

Viewing at 10 Carden St from November 13-December 13

Join us on Sat. Nov. 13 - 10-1pm for the opening reception of this delightful work.

9-5 pm Monday to Friday or by Appointment: barbara@sonicplayground.ca

SAVE THE DATE for FUN!

SAVE THE DATE for FUN!

Thursday November 25 | 7-11 pm
Tanya Davis and Evalyn Parry are in Guelph to share their inspiring and thoughtful spoken word performances in another 10 Carden fundraiser.

The next ebulletin will share full details of this fun event. For now, we'd like to introduce Tanya Davis:

Tanya Davis is a poet. She is a storyteller. She is a musician and a singer-songwriter and she fuses these elements together in a refreshing matrimony of language and sound, side-stepping genre and captivating audiences in the process. With the release of her third album, Clocks and Hearts Keep Going, in November 2010, she affirms her well-earned place in the ranks of thoughtful and hard-working Canadian Artists.

Since bursting onto the Halifax music scene in 2006 with her debut, Make a List, Tanya has garnered praise from industry, audience, and peers, as well as multiple award nominations, including one for her sophomore release, Gorgeous Morning, for the 2009 ECMA Female Recording of the Year. She is a 2 time winner in the CBC National Poetry Face-off as well as the Canadian Winner of the 2008 Mountain Stage NewSong contest. In 2009, with support from Bravo, she collaborated with independent filmmaker Andrea Dorfman to produce a short videopoem entitled How to Be Alone; the short has since been featured at numerous film festivals, including The Vancouver Film Fest, The Worldwide Short Film Festival, and the VideoPoetry Festival (Berlin). It also has 1.8 million views on Youtube.

Clocks and Hearts Keep Going was produced in collaboration with celebrated Artist Jim Bryson. This album, like those before it, features strongly Tanya's unique and vulnerable style, full of poignant lyrics, catchy melodies, and expressive, if unconventional, arrangements. She is also currently at work on a feature-length show based in music and performance poetry, as funded by The Canada Council for the Arts.
