GCDF Announces New Board & Staff Members

GCDF is proud to welcome Heather McIvor as a new member to our board this year. Heather is an educator with experience developing and implementing critical paths for projects, as well as spearheading specialized fundraising initiatives, including those that helped increase independence for students with disabilities. Her involvement with the GCDF goes back to our first two years when she lent her skills as festival costume designer and sewer. Heather is excited to be part of the board this year, and we are certain her insight and experience will prove invaluable.

This year, Barbara Radecki takes over as Publicist/Writer/Editor while Jillian Cockburn takes her maternity leave. Barbara has worked in this capacity over the years for several independent film productions, as well as for the Women’s College Hospital’s 100th Year Anniversary Being She exhibit last June. A dedicated fan of the GCDF since it began, she is excited to be part of the GCDF team. If you have any questions or ideas, you are welcome to share them with Barbara at promotion.gcdf@gmail.com.

Funding News

The Guelph Contemporary Dance Festival recognizes that support from our funding partners is a vital part of our ability to offer the most compelling, dynamic and culturally significant events, while also bringing together artists, audience and community. We are thrilled to welcome several new sponsors and funders who will help us realize our events throughout 2012.

Guelph Community Foundation
We’ve just received a $2,500 grant from the Guelph Community Foundation to commission Karen Kaeja to create a new work for the Fall On Your Feet Collective. Karen has become a respected fixture on the Guelph dance scene with her highly physical, challenging, intelligent, and visually riveting works. The GCF grant will allow Karen Kaeja to work with the community and local professional dancers from the collective, as well as with youth from the Guelph Youth Dance Company , and to teach at the GCDF’s March Break Camp and Workshops in Schools program. We are still looking for funding for culminating performances on March 8th, 2012, as part of International Women’s Day, and on June 3rd, 2012, in GCDF’s Youth Moves Series.

BFTA
Amid stiff competition, BFTA’s artsVest Guelph has just announced that GCDF has been awarded pre-approved funding for matching funds up to $7,000. We are now actively looking to our business community to help us secure new sponsorships to equal this amount. This important funding ensures that GCDF continues to grow and develop, as well as building on its already strong partnerships with the Guelph business community. Please let us know if your business would like to participate in this exciting opportunity to bring the arts and business communities together.
