GCDF up:lifting all audiences
The aim to enthral & educate is central to the philosophy of the Guelph Contemporary Dance Festival. Take our Arts Explosion! March Break Camp, for instance. Children are offered programs that stimulate their creativity and imagination, all the while strengthening their bodies and lifting their spirits. The 2010 classes
promise to engage girls and boys, aged 4 to 13 years, with a host of activities guided by talented and local workshop leaders in the bright spaces of the River Run Centre:
Janet Morton offers vsual art instruction. Janet is a nationally acclaimed visual artist with a spectacular array of art shows presented across the country. As a theatre practitioner with eight years’ experience teaching children creative arts, Daniel Poulin is sure to inspire. Kelly Steadman will introduce the wee ones (4–5 yrs) to Modern Jazz Dance & Creative Dance
. Kelly is a graduate of Ryerson University’s BFA Dance Program and a former student of Royal City School of Ballet. The co-artistic directors of the GCDF and co-founders and teachers at the Guelph Youth Dance Training Program, Janet Johnson & Catrina von Radecki will impart their combined years of skill in teaching
Creative Dance. Julia Garlisi is a native of Dundas, Ontario and will apply her past work with David Earle to the Dance Focus stream of children, aged 10-13. Sifu Robin Young will share his 35 years of experience with martial arts by teaching Kung Fu.
Shannon Kingsbury's music sessions demonstrate her training in Orff with the Royal Conservatory of Music as well as the Musikgarten of Guelph, and will delight children aged 4-5 years old.

The Monica Davis Scholarship Fund provides an opportunity to attend the Guelph Contemporary Dance Festival's March Break or Summer Day Camps at a reduced rate. Several spots have already been awarded, with some remaining. Monica Davis (1931-2009) was a passionate and active volunteer with the Guelph Contemporary Dance Festival for many years who left a legacy of dedication to the arts in our community.

The Central Students' Association (CSA) Nooner performance is presented this year on March 31 at 12:00 pm in the University Centre on the University of Guelph campus, and is FREE to the public.
Repeatedly listed nationally as one of the Top Ten Performances of the Year by The Globe and Mail and locally in Toronto’s Now Magazine, The Chimera Project has made a distinct mark on the Canadian dance front. Award winning choreographer and dancer Malgorzata Nowacka is a professional dancer, educator and the founding Artistic Director of The Chimera Project . The Guelph Contemporary Dance Festival offers diverse, innovative and curriculum based programming and workshops for Kindergarten to Grade 12 throughout the year.
This year's workshops-in-schools Festival artists:
Chimera Project - Creative Discovery Workshops
Students go through a guided discovery workshop where they explore tools of choreography.
Chimera Project - Contemporary Dance Technique Contemporary dance class taught from beginner dancers through to advanced students. Class is created fusing elements of ballet, hip-hop and classical modern dance. Available March 31 from 1:30pm - 3:00 pm
Indian Dance with Menaka Thakkar, a master dancer in three classical Indian styles – Bharatanatyam, Odissi and Kuchipudi. She is credited (along with Kathak dancer, Rina Singha) as having been the first artist to introduce Indian culture to Canadian audiences. Bharatanatyam
, and other Indian dance styles, are multidisciplinary in nature including emphasis on storytelling, narration, facial expression, eye movement, hand gestures (mudras), and music. Available June 2 or 4, 2010 all day.
Andrea Nann | Dreamwalker Dance Company:
A choreographer, director and producer and a graduate of York University’s Department of Fine Arts in 1988, Nann was a full-time member of the Danny Grossman Dance Company (DGDC) for fifteen where she created, performed and taught major roles from the works of Mr. Grossman and guest choreographers. Creative Movement workshop
This workshop guides students from Grades 3-12 through exercises and experiences where they learn and practice basic elements of dance and develop creative expression, observation and communication skills. Available June 2, 2010 from 9am-1:30pm
Other dates could also be arranged.

Guelph Contemporary Dance Festival Co-Founders and Co-Artistic Directors and Founders of the Guelph Youth Dance training program, Janet Johnson and Catrina von Radecki, are available to come into your school anytime throughout the year.
