Get Powered Up With Us!
This year’s dance festival is Powered Up with the notion of change and growth. After 13 years, we recognize that the landscape in Guelph has changed. With dancers living and working in our community, and with the general public taking contemporary dance classes and witnessing dance shows throughout the year, the GCDF must fuel up to meet new expectations and new directions. Growth is great, but we need to be strong, we need to be nurtured by you and our artists, and we need to be fueled by sustainable funding. These are our dreams for this year. To Power Up and get ready to explode with energy, beauty, physical dialogue and vulnerability.
We want you to Power Up and be fueled by dance too. Take risks, get strong, take a dance class, go to your first dance performance, meet new people, see new things!

Power Up!
To celebrate GCDF’s exciting 2012 season, we have a new slogan: Power Up!
This year’s festival is powered up with masculine energy. We’re presenting more male dancers and choreographers than ever before. Expect to see explosive force and raw physical dialogue between dancers, vulnerability and trust, tension and aggression.

We’ve launched this compelling lineup just in time for the holidays. Festival tickets make amazing, unique holiday gifts and stocking stuffers, especially since you save 10% on every advance single ticket and as much as 25% on festival passes. Don’t miss the chance to share and be part of GCDF’s bold, strong, and dynamic new momentum.
Stage A features work by choreographer Allen Kaeja who explores the intimate relationship between two women through live media, music, and dance; while Gadfly imagines the rebirth of seven fallen warriors; and firstthingsfirst productions brings us a cunning work with an athletic, kinetic structure.

Stage B features Yvonne Ng’s examination of the insinuating soft and possibly injurious wild beauty of three male dancers; Kinesis Dance somatheatro fills the stage with the tension of four male dancers in a confined space; and Link Dance brings together the worlds of dance and science using sound, video, lighting and movement.
Add to this the strength and passion of our amazing performers In the Park, In the Street, and In the Studio and we have a powerful and breathtaking season you won’t want to miss.
Festival tickets go on sale December 7th!

November 24th featured Barbara Radecki, GCDF’s new PR rep and long-time Festival follower. And December 1st gave us personal insight into Robert Kingsbury’s experience at the latest CSA Nooner.
This week's post is a fascinating up-close-and-personal look at the challenges and rewards of curating a dance festival. Stay tuned as we bring you a new story every week.
