CSA Nooner: Company Blonde Dance Projects
On November 16th, 2010, the Guelph Contemporary Dance Festival launched its exciting 2010/2011 Performance Season with a Central Students’ Association (CSA) Nooner performance, featuring Toronto-based dance company, Company Blonde Dance Projects
. Co-presented by the Guelph Contemporary Dance Festival and the University of Guelph Central Students’ Association, the one-hour performance will took place at the University’s Student Centre and was free to the public.
The CSA Nooner Series is the Festival’s effort to surprise, educate and delight audiences in their own backyards, as it were. The CSA Nooner gives students and staff of the University of Guelph the opportunity to get carried away by a contemporary art form.
Company Blonde Dance Projects presented two dance pieces for the event:
Premiered in Toronto 2002, Ruby Venus, is a sculptural work of five identical women clad in long red hoop dresses, blonde wigs and masquerade masks they move to a symphony of heavy metal violins in a foreign land. Exploring their surroundings in childlike fashion, afraid to wander too far from the clan. The work featured Company members as well as highlighted by two local dancers, Sue Knox (who is also GCDF Board Member) and Lindsay Morris.
Awright Awright Awright premiered in Guelph in 2004. Clad in bright 70’s style one-piece snowsuits, this highly energetic piece was designed for the outdoors but has found its way onto many small stages. This unique looking trio of women “dance like no one is watching” with all their heart and it is nearly impossible to resist shakin’ it along side them.
Since its inception in 1999, Company Blonde Dance Projects has been dedicated to creating dance works that are accessible to a vast audience of all ages blending comedy and theatre with classical modern dance. Company Blonde strives to tell stories and share experiences that speak to their community and their culture, while always keeping the audience at the forefront of their work.
Approximately 200 people viewed the rousing CSA Nooner performance and there were smiles all around on the faces of audience members.
Sue Knox and Lindsay Morris performed magnificently in Ruby Venus, and they later wrote to us noting that participating in this work was an incredible experience and that they felt lucky to have been involved. A huge thanks to both of them for contributing their amazing talent to the CSA Nooner and for their continued support of the GCDF!
